CLASS REUNION WEEKEND - SEPT 2021

Meet & Greet: Friday Night, Sept. 3, 2021 at Lowes Hotel KC

The weather was iffy -- it could storm any minute -- but the rain held off initially. Classmates gathered, conversed and friendships were rekindled. Later, because it began raining, we moved to the spacious hotel lobby. Lasting impression? 40-years later and we still looked good!

Tour / Picnic: Saturday Morning, Sept. 4, 2021 at Sumner Academy of Arts & Sciences

When we planned a tour of the school, the Committee didn't know what to expect. How many people were interested? Would the morning rain keep people away? How would people know what to do? There was no need to worry. Almost 30 classsmates showed up, the morning rain was brief and our tour guide, Sumner Academy Athletics and Activity Director Ty Collins, was phenomenal. Banquet: Saturday Evening, Sept. 4, 2021 at Sumner Academy of Arts & Sciences

Whoa. It was a nice turnout and an excellent evening as we enjoyed the conversation of classmates while everyone looked good. The highlights of the evening included a school rap by Hiram, the awards and acknowledgments, and our picture-taking session(s). The food was good (we should have served it earlier so it would have been hotter), the cake was phenomenal (a replica of Sumner Academy), and the music was okay (the DJ couldn't quite get our era right). Nevertheless, classmates who passed away were honored, a special $500 scholarship was given to SA Principal Rick Malone and we were educated and uplifted by the speeches of committee members Reggie Davis and Tony Booker. What a great time! Most everyone voted to have another (mini) reunion in 5-years in which all 5 classes are invited followed by a full, more formal 50-year (!) reunion for all the classes.
